Question: I am reading the Book of Mormon and studying with the missionaries. I was wondering if you could give me any scriptures from the Book of Mormon, that might help me in my studies?
Response: Everyone has their own favorite parts of the Book of Mormon, those parts that speak most clearly to their soul, and provide them comfort, guidance and truth.
One part that is dear to me is in the third Book of Nephi. Start reading about chapter 11. It relates the account of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and his visit to the American continent as a perfected, resurrected being after his death on the cross and subsequent resurrection. It is beautiful scripture and very touching as the Savior displays his tender love to the people. He speaks to them and gently teaches them about baptism and the sacrament. He calls apostles and leaders and organizes his church. He heals the sick. He gathers the little children to his side and prays for them.
In Chapter 17 it says that Jesus "knelt upon the earth: and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written and the multitude did bear record who heard him. The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father. No tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father. And he took the little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them."
I hope that the spirit of this holy message can touch your heart as it has mine and millions of others through the years.
