Question: My name is Faye. I'm not sure if this question is too personal to ask but I'm going to ask anyhow. I've searched your site for questions that may have been answered by you regarding your struggle with social anxiety disorder and have found nothing except the one on panic disorder. I have social anxiety to the extent where I'm totally alone in my life. I don't have close friends to confide in or anyone to converse with who can identify with me on this. I find it difficult to be around people. I'm afraid all the time and my life is one of almost total avoidance of any social situation eventhough I take medication. I'm wondering how you got through this phase of your life? I've struggled for years and it seems like poof! all of a sudden you're cured and I think that's great! My question is how did God help you through this? I'm a Christian also and pray God's promises regarding worry and anxiety, etc. yet I would like to know your thoughts on this if you would be so kind. Thank you so much Donny and God bless.
Response: Thank you for your email. I appreciate the fact that you would be strong enough to even disclose your anxiety to anyone. That tells me that you are willing enough to do something about it.
I will tell you that mine was not a "poof and it's gone" sitation. This is something I'm able to deal with now. It's taken a lot of work, but it's possible. Through the help of many professionals, I'm now able to cope with, and fix the very thing that was destroying me.
I have established a link on my web site that will enable you to find solutions to your specific "social anxiety disorder". The address is: www.donny.com/adaa
