Question: Hi Donny, I have a friend who is a member of your church. She and her husband wear undergarments that they have said are ordained by the church to wear in order to protect them from harm. Could you please explain this practice? Do you also wear these undergarments? Thanks so much for this site, I have learned very much about your religion.
Response: The nature of these sacred temple garments is such that to discuss in detail their meaning and importance with those who have not been to the temple would tend to make them common and somewhat less sacred to me. However, I will tell you that I do wear these sacred garments and as you have been told they do provide a certain protection and security for us as long as we are faithful to all that we know to be true.
The wearing of the garments reminds us on a daily basis of the Christ-centered principles and teachings that should be foremost in our minds and also helps us to remember to live Christ-centered lives.
We don’t consider them "magical" nor are they to be the subject of casual discussion or display. We do count them as sacred and special and are thankful for the privilege to wear them. I hope this is helpful.
(Bev's Note: There have been many questions lately sent to Donny regarding the wearing of garments. Please know that only adult, worthy members who have been through the Temple, wear these sacred garments. As Donny said, they are not 'magical', and just as ministers of other faiths wear an outer garment/vestment to help them remember their promises to serve God, we wear ours under our everyday clothes to remind us of our promises to serve God and His Son Jesus Christ.)
