Since we will are all related back to Adam and Eve, won't we all be together in heaven?

10/2/01

Question: Donny, A wonderful friend sent me the Book of Mormon, a bible and a book called "Why Would Anyone Join the Mormon Church" by Brad Brase. I have come across another question in my studies. When I was thinking about the geneology and why Mormons are so into it, it made me think about the families being together in heaven or celestial kingdom (is that right?). Well, since we all go back to Adam and Eve we are all related. If Mormons like to get family names together to take to the temple and bless them (I'm not exactly sure what is done with those names) then won't everyone be together? I mean, if you are sealed to your wife and children then you all will be together in heaven. But as a child of your Mother and Father, you will be with them and so on and so on. So each family does not have their own "celestial kingdom" right? Because we are al! ! ! l linked together and there is no place where one family ends and another begins. Does that question make any sense? It did in my head! I understand about the levels (Celestial, Terrestrial, and Telestial), but just not how the families are together without being together with every other family. Thank You! :-)

Response: The answer is no, everyone will not be together, because everyone has their free agency to do and act as they please on this earth.

All of us will one day stand before our Savior and we will be judged according to the things which we have done while we were on the earth.

Although it is true that we wish that all families could be together through the eternities, every member of each family will not be there because of his/her actions while on this earth, will not have merited the reward.

Some of Heavenly Father's children will inherit the Celestial Kingdom, and those who do will be sealed to their families down through countless generations.

Others will inherit the Terrestrial kingdom where they will receive a significant reward for the good things that they have done, but because they have not always been valiant in the testimony of Jesus, they will not receive the Celestial glory where God dwells.

Others will receive a reward of the Telestial kingdom, because the they will have been considerably less valiant then those who received a glory in the first two kingdoms.
