Question

What is your belief on marriage and eternity? I know you believe that marriage is forever, but somehow I get the impression that single people don't share the same type of eternity as married people. Is that true? I am single and I think God has someone out there for me but sometimes I am not sure. I am 36 and still haven't found that person.

Let me start by telling you what I am sure of. God, our Heavenly Father, knows you and has known you for eons of time. Before you came to this earth, you had a personal conversation and interview with Him about the trials and challenges that you would face on this earth and you agreed to accept those challenges. I’m confident that being thirty-six and unmarried is a great challenge for you. It surely would be for me. Our Heavenly Father knows who you are. He loves you and is eager and anxious to bless you, but so far has not provided you with the blessing of that man who is especially for you. I am confident that if we pray always and are totally believing and faithful to the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, all things will work together for our good. Consequently, if you will draw closer to our Heavenly Father by drawing ever closer to our Savior, by becoming more Christ-centered, taking upon yourself His name and the burdens of others, helping and sustaining others in their trials, and standing as a witness of Christ at all times and in all places that you may ever be in, then those marvelous things will allow you to claim the blessings that you seek. I have no doubt of this. I’m confident that one of those blessings is an eternal mate for you in consequence of your faithfulness. In answer to the question about differences for married people and singles in eternity, those who are sealed together in the temple will enjoy the very choicest of Heavenly Father’s blessings in His Celestial Kingdom. Those who choose not to be sealed in the temple, while they will enjoy many great and wonderful blessings, will miss the particular blessings reserved for those whose marriage was sealed upon them for time and for all eternity.
