| Question |
I always swore I would read the Bible and I am finally doing it. Actually your Joseph video made me pick it up to read the story of Jacob and Joseph and now I've gone back to the begining and started reading. There seemed to be alot of sinning in the Bible. Marrying siblings and cousins, multiple wives and concubines of which the men seem to think is fine to be having babies with, and so many others I can't list all of here. It kind of offended me. Even Jacob jumping from one wife to a mistress to another wife etc. How can all this be ok? Was this okay with
God? Maybe I just don'tunderstand. It's like, if Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel and Cain married...who did he marry if they were the first on earth? Obviously Adam and Eve had daughters that the sons had children with. Isn't that incest? I am just trying to understand and make some sense of it. I am just in the middle of Exodus, what lies ahead?

I agree that reading the Bible can sometimes be confusing, and of course there are many things that do not have good answers. Concerning the subject of plural marriage, I would say that through the ages, God has allowed the practice of plural marriage for the purpose of raising up a particular generation of people, but it has never been lawful to participate in plural marriage unless the Lord directed it. Concerning the question of who the children of Adam and Eve married and whether that was incest or not, I would simply say that in the beginning of time, the only conceivable way for Adam and Eve’s children to procreate and people the earth was literally by marrying their own brothers and sisters and cousins. I hope this is helpful.
