| Question |
You believe that families are eternal-- that they will be together in the next life as well as in this life. My question is, what happens when there is a divorce? With whom are the children united with for eternity-- the mother or the father? Obviously, if the parents have been divorced they will not be together for eternity-- so what happens to the children of this "eternal" family?

Thank you for your email regarding eternal families. It is our belief that if a man and woman are sealed in the temple for time and all eternity, but later divorce, if there are children from that marriage they will be with that parent who is true and faithful to all the covenants and commandments of the Lord. That isn't always clear for us to judge, but we know that the Lord who is all knowing and all seeing will properly and fairly judge the matter, and that all things will work together for the blessing and benefit of these children and the faithful spouse and an eternal family unit will be maintained through the eternities.
Thanks for writing, I hope our perspective is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
