Question

I am wondering why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints use no version of the Bible but the King James Version or the Authoritative Version of the Bible? All are translations except for The Living Bible which is a paraphrase. I grew up around Mormons due to being raised for part of my life in Western Illinois and all of them used the King James Version and The Book of Mormon to search for life's lessons. Thank you.

This an interesting question and the answer is very simple. As the Holy Bible has many translations, and it is my understanding that the King James Version is the sixteenth translation from the original Greek and Hebrew languages, we believe it is the most accurate of all the translations. Many criticize us for our eighth article of faith that states: We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; (Pearl of Great Price | Articles of Faith 1:8 ) Some of the most vocal of the critics commonly use the New King James Version of the Bible and other modern translations. One expert, David W. Daniels, not of our faith, reasons that this translation is flawed: The New King James is not a King James Bible. It changed thousands of words, ruined valuable verses, and when not agreeing with the King James Bible, it has instead copied the perverted NIV, NASV or RSV. And this you must know: those who translated the NKJV did not believe God perfectly preserved His words! This, I am sure, has been the tendency with each of the many translations that have occurred. Please know, however, that I am not aware of any passage in the Bible that we do not accept. You will notice that I typically use Biblical passages in answering the questions that come to My Beliefs.
