| Question |
I have a very unusal question to ask. This is a very serious question..What would happen if a family that is sealed together at marriage and they had children and they found out that one of the children were swapped at birth at the hospital by mistake. Would that child still be theirs and have all of the blessing even though it is not their child? And what about the child that is theirs? Would they have the same blessing even if their child went to a non-member family? Would that child be with them the rest of eternity?

You have asked a very serious question about what would happen if a family that is sealed together and had a baby and that child was "swapped" by mistake at the hospital, what would be the situation with both children. I should tell you that there is no official LDS church statement on this possibility, but I will tell you my feeling about it. The Lord is not a "game player". If this family and the "child from the other parents" live true and faithful lives, all of the blessings from the gospel will be theirs in the eternities. By the same token, if the child who was "born under the covenant", but never raised by an LDS family, doesn’t have the same opportunity to hear the gospel message before he dies, he will be given that opportunity and will be blessed also in the eternities. You must remember that Heavenly Father knows all things and is totally kind and compassionate towards all of His children. He would not deny blessings to His children based on the mistakes of others. I’ve learned in my lifetime that after we do everything we can do to fix and solve righteous problems, the Lord will step in and fix it and He will do that in this case whether in this life or in the next. Again, I repeat, there is no official LDS church statement on this matter. I have given you my own belief.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
