One of the greatest regrets of my life is that I was not priveledged to
go on a full time mission. Although, someday, my wife and I plan to to serve a mission together once I'm done with this singing thing. :)
The Lord has blessed
me to be in the lime light enough to have the opportunity to reach out to
people, such as through My Belief's section on my website. I have made
sure that each of my sons are encouraged to go on missions. They all have done this so far. Some of my sons want to be performers and I feel they have the talent. I am so greatful, however, that they have chosen
to fill missions and I know they will always be greatful for doing so. They have told me that.
I know the likes of Steve Young, one of the most famous football players of our time, and also a wonderful embassador for the Church, regrets dearly that
he didn't go on a mission. On the other hand, Chad Lewis, the all pro tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles is a returned missionary who served in Taiwan and just last year was sent by the NFL throughout the Orient
promoting the NFL because he spoke Chinese.
There is a story told by President Hinckley of someone who made a huge positive impression on him. He was a brilliant young student from the Orient who found the gospel when he came to the US to be educated. He
explained that if he were to be baptized, he would be disowned by his family
and rejected in his society and would not be given the opportunity for which
he was sent to be trained. He said, that if this is the Lord's church, he
could not see how he could do anything but be baptized, because following
the Lord was far more important than what he was about to give up. I believe that you will be greatly blessed if you put the Lord first.
Remember the young man who came to Jesus: "And, behold, one came and said
unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal
life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good
but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the
commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my
youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go
and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure
in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that
saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions." (Matthew
19:16 - 22)
You have great possessions with your looks, your talent and whatever else which has caused you to pursue an opportunity in modeling.
Now, to me the right choice for you is clear, but it must be your choice.
Please pray about it, and if you pray with an open mind and heart, the Holy
Ghost will tell you what to do.
May the Lord bless you and guide you on your mission and your
career. Let me know what you decide.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
