Question I know you do not reply to personal email, but I have an interesting situation that I would like your input on.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a parochial school. Last week we showed the video, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to our students. We have had three parents, who rather loudly, complained that the content was not appropriate for our students. We believe, of course, that the story was done beautifully, and while somewhat provocative, the story was true.

What advise and/or words of wisdom can you give to us? I really appreciate any help you can give to us.

Response I am honored that you would write me. I love the story of Joseph and enjoyed playing his role in the musical. I'm sure that the complaints made were in reference to when Phorah's wife made advancements towards Joseph, but he resisted, but was never-the-less accused. Even though it was adapted for the musical, this was based on the scriptural account.

As an educator, you already know that you can't be correct in you judgement 100 percent of the time. Everyone will have their own opinion about what is appropriate and what is not. For some, maybe it's better they just read the scriptures and not see them.

I can understand how some parents would be uneasy about their children seeing this part. I would suggest you merely acklowledge their concern, apologize for any discomfort this may have caused and propose that all concerned do their best to optimize the positive development of the children.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
