Your questions make perfect sense. You sound like a very choice person to me. Thank you so much for this very sincere email and I hope that this may help you in some way.
Your concern about the spiritual direction of your life, to me is not at all selfish or un-humble. I believe that each of us is responsible for our own individual search for truth. Once you find the truth, you will be able to give much comfort or directions to others including you own family. Even then, they will respond only to the extent that they are sincere and honest in their desire to know God's truth.
There are several passages of scripture that relate to your desire to know God's will. Here are a few:
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that
seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man
is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which
is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:7 - 11)
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men
liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask
in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (James 1:5 - 6)
"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man
knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things
also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the
natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:9 - 14)
"If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even
the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you...But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave
with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto
you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.' (John 14:15 - 17; 26 - 27)
"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not
true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of
the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." (Book of Mormon | Moroni 10:4 - 5)
God speaks through the Holy Ghost to our spirit within us, typically not in audible words, but with a "still, small voice" in our thoughts and feelings. I think that your inclination to send this question is the beginning of the answer to your prayers. Could I invite you to do a couple of things? One, email me your questions. I would love to try to answer them from my perspective. Two, would you check out the presentations in the Multimedia section of My Beliefs section of my
www.donny.com website. I would like to know your reaction to these
presentations in light of your search.
My prayers are with you in your search. I am confident that you will find what you are looking for.
Please keep me advised.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
