Regarding your question about temple marriage: We believe that temple marriages, sealed by proper priesthood authority, will unite husbands and wives in the eternities. This belief is based on modern-day revelation from the Lord. In essence, revelation says that if we are married on this earth by one who holds the Melchizedek priesthood, and are true and faithful to all the covenants which we make in God’s temple, then when we leave this life, we will still be sealed together throughout the eternities. Therefore, if we are sealed in marriage by one who, no matter how sincere he may be, lacks that proper priesthood authority, we will be married for this life only. As the words of most wedding ceremonies state, "Until death do us part."
I wish there were time and space in this e-mail to explain each and every facet of this doctrine, but there is not. I am wondering if you would be willing to have me send two representatives of our church to visit with you to explain what we believe and why. They can explain precisely what it means to be married in the temple, and how you and your family can be together forever throughout the eternities when sealed by the priesthood of God. If you would like me to have them call on you, please let me know.
