As most everyone does in life, I too have made several course changes as my career has progressed over the years and there have been times, as you suggested, that I was "trying to find myself". I think we all do that at certain times in our lives, but I have never questioned my faith. Although, when I was sixteen years old, I decided I wanted to really know for myself of the truthfullness of the gospel and of the church. I read the scriptures, partucularly the Book of Mormon and prayed a lot and received for myself a deep conviction of its truth.
There are so many challenges and temptations in the world that make this life interesting, but I have never really been tempted to drink. I really don't know where you got that information.
Please be careful, in your not attending church. The ordinance of partaking of the Sacrament in rememberance of the Lord's sacrifice for us is an opportunity to renew our commitment to him each week. I really worry about
your not participating in that weekly renewal. I believe we need this constant reminder to stay on the strait and narrow way that leads to eternal life and to avoid the broad way to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14).
I suggest you read the 8th chapter of 1st Nephi regarding the tree of life and the need to hold on to the iron rod (Word of God) in order to avoid a natural tendancy that we all have in drifting away.
This life is so short and eternity is so very, very long, it's just good practical business to do all we can to make sure we're ready for success in the long run.
Best wishes and I hope you let me know how you are doing.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
