Beliefs > Question & Answer > Trials
| Question |
For many years I have had a strong belief in an eternal being/spirit, and as
yet have never found a house of the Lord that fulfils my ethos of living. A
few years ago my daughter went to a LDS meeting here on the Isle of Wight
where we live and came home full of light. She is very spiritual even at
the age of 9 and has a calm about her that is extraordinary for a child of
her age.
My family has been through the hardest 3 years that I could ever imagine
(Whilst still being aware that there are millions out there even worst off).
What with my husband being made redundant 5 times, my being in hospital 12
times and nearly loosing Gemma 2 years ago to illness, our faith has wobbled
a little to say the least.
Having read your beliefs page I would dearly love to know more about the LDS
faith as I feel that perhaps this is what I have been looking for all of
these years.

Thank you for such a special email. Please give your daughter my best.
I am so sorry your family has had to struggle like this, but I'm sure there are
great things in store for you if you endure it well. It sounds to me like you have. The Apostle Peter wrote: "Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if
need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though
it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ...: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. (New Testament | 1 Peter 1:3 - 9)
Here is a passage from the Book of Mormon that may apply: "I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith." (Book of Mormon | Ether 12:6)
You are having the same kind of spiritual yearnings for the truth that I have felt along with many thousands of others. I am confident that if your
search can remain open, honest and sincere you will find that your feelings are leading you to the truth. May I invite you to investigate, as the Lord
has suggested when he said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: ( Matthew 7:7) "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of
all things." (Book of Mormon | Moroni 10:4 - 5)
My son, Don, served as a missionary right there in the Isle of White a few years ago. In fact, when I was on tour there in 2003, he came with me because he wanted to go back there and show me what a beautiful place you live in. I certainly found it to be just as beautiful as he explained it to me. I wish he were there now on his mission. I'd send him right over to show you some of the basics of our faith. But fortunately, there are others like him there on the Island who would be more than honored to come to your home and present our beliefs and if you
pray, you will know for yourself the truth of it. If you are willing, email
me back with your phone number and address and I will have our friends there
contact you. If you feel uncomfortable with this, let me know and we will
provide additional information that may be helpful.
I look forward to hearing back from you,
Donny
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
