Question I have spent awhile reading through the questions about LDS and other religions. For anyone reading this I am a Methodist from England. I can only count myself lucky in having the 'friendship' of LDS missionaries which I know. This goes back to 1968 when my first 'encounter' with the LDS church. My uncle (who was catholic) took boarders into his home. Over the years we had a few couples who were doing their missionary work in Cumbria, I had never met young people who were so trusting in their belief with God. I must say at the time it put my own beliefs to shame. However this meeting did make me take a more informed and active part in my own church. Then about 16 year ago the house next to me became the 'home' for four lads with house parents. I was always included in their family nights, and I must say thoroughly enjoyed them. These people knew that I would never turn from my own church yet they still made me a part of their lives, and for that reason I thank them.

At that time I was plagued with a back complaint which virtually grounded me for weeks and sometimes months on end. Before they left for the last time, my neighbors asked if they could 'lay hands on'. From then until now, my complaint has got no worse. Some may think that a funny statement. My doctor has said to me that he can't understand how I still walk about, because he was sure that by now I should be in a wheelchair. Some may say coincidence. I say thank you to the church of LDS for their faith and their friendship.

Response Thank you so much for your email and sharing the experiences with me that you have had with members of our church.  It is gratifying that there are those who live by their faith.  Surely the Lord commanded us to "love our neighbor as ourselves"  (Matthew 22:37).

The Bible speaks of healing blessings (see James 5:15-16) performed not only by Christ and the apostles but others who had been ordained to his Holy Priesthood.  We claim this priesthood has been restored to the earth by heavenly messengers who appeared to and ordained a latter day prophet, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, who was with him, in May 1829.   Part of the call of those who are ordained to this Priesthood is to bless and heal the sick when needed.  There are thousands of accounts of such blessings and subsequent healings in the journals of the early members of the church, the pioneers and settlers of the Western US.

Even now, I know that blessings given by the Elders of the Church are occurring in hundreds if not thousands of homes every day.  I have received such blessings on many occasions and have even had the privilege of giving blessings to my wife and children.  I am convinced that because of the power of the Lord through those blessings and the faith of all who were involved, that the Lord intervened in the quick recovery process.  There have been many faith promoting events in my family and among those that I know personally.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Lord responded to the blessing you received.

Thanks again for sharing that experience with us.

May God bless and keep you too.

[NOTE FROM BEV: I have also been healed, or helped, many times, through the power of the Priesthood.  When I have been very ill, sometimes the healings were immediate.  One blessing I received a year and half ago was for my MS and I was told that through my faith I would be healed. It took many months, and the Lord led me to a naturopathic dr who has been able to help me, plus I am exercising the muscles that were atrophied, and I no longer use a cane - at all!  My son gave me a blessing at Christmas that spoke of the health healings I have received at the hand of the Lord.  I am grateful beyoond words for this, and I know that I need to be better to help Him accomplish the particular work He needs me to do for the rest of my life.  The Priesthood of God HAS been restored to this earth, in all of it's truth and glory.  I know this to be true, and am so grateful!]
