First of all, it is really difficult to advise on such a general question because I've found that there are so many reasons for people to lose their faith. Sometimes people get their feelings hurt by others that they have trusted, while others are deceived by false information. However, I would say that each of us is the pilot of his or her
own destiny. We have been given that most precious gift called agency.
I have found that people exercise their own agency to become what they want to become. If, a person wants to find faith and build their life on the strength of it, they must first have the desire to do just that. I think the wisest advice I could ever give to you is not from me, but from the scriptures.
"Wherefore, men are free... to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.
(2 Nephi 2:27)
"For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.
(2 Nephi 28:30)
There is a wonderful chapter in the Book of Mormon the 32nd chapter of Alma starting with verse 26 which defines faith and compares it to a seed. Here are a few verses of that chapter:
"But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words. Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me."
(Alma 32:27 - 28)
The chapter goes on to say that the seed takes root and grows into a tree and that it will bear precious fruit. "But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life. And because of your diligence and your faith and your patience with the word in nourishing it, that it may take root in you, behold, by and by ye shall pluck the fruit thereof, which is most precious, which is sweet above all that is sweet, and which is white above all that is white, yea, and pure above all that is pure; and ye shall feast upon this fruit even until ye are filled, that ye hunger not, neither shall ye thirst. Then, my brethren, ye shall reap the rewards of your faith, and your diligence, and patience, and long-suffering, waiting for the tree to bring forth fruit unto you"
(Alma 32:41 - 43)
I would read and reread and even cross reference these verses of scripture and then take it to the Lord in humble prayer and I'm sure that you will find that your faith hasn't been lost, just merely misplaced.
I sincerely hope this will help.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
