Thank you for your question. My parents taught us from an early age, and I am very grateful to them for that. Debbie and I try to do the same with our children. We feel it is very important to give them a foundation where they can stand strong as they face and deal with the many destructive options that will tempt them in their lives, especially through those difficult teenage years.
When I was 16 years old, I decided I needed to know for myself, the truth of our religion and so I read the entire Book of Mormon from cover to cover after which I sincerely prayed about it. I received my own strong spiritual confirmation of the truth of that book and of the restored gospel of our Savior and I have never wavered from it. I realize though that I must continue to build on my faith by reading the scriptures, praying and trying my best to live the best life I can or that conviction fades from me and I can become vulnerable to destructive behavior.
I hope this answers your question.
Thanks again,
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
