Question I was brought up as a Catholic and do go to church every Sunday. One of our beliefs is that of our Lady of Fatima. As a Mormon, do you also believe that our Lady appeared to those three children at Fatima in 1917 with a message for peace. If so, how do you deal with it?

Response I have great respect for those of the Catholic faith who abide by the teachings of their church. I have heard of many people, during my life, who have been visited by the spirits of those who have died. Most of the time, it has been a visit from a family member who had some special message to offer. Most often this message was to bring a measure of peace to the individual experiencing the visitation.

We believe that a number of heavenly visitations to the prophet Joseph Smith and those with him were necessary to restore the teachings, organization, ordinances and authority that was a part of Christ's primitive church, the one he organized when he lived on the earth.

I do not question that there could have been a visitation experienced by the children at Fatima. I do, however, believe that down through the ages of time, when the Lord had a message for mankind, it was given through one that he had called to be a Prophet.

Thanks for writing,

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
