There are many people who claim to be able to communicate with those who have passed beyond the veil. I have to admit that I am personally very skeptical of those kind of claims because I ask in my mind, what is the ultimate purpose for this 'claimed' ability?
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that when we die our spirits leave our bodies and return to that God who created them. The scriptures don't tell us exactly what those spirits are doing, but he the Lord has said in the scriptures, "My house is a house of order." And so I am confident that the spirit children of our Heavenly
Father, when they leave this earth, would first of all be found "resting from all earthly care" and being refreshed by the whole "spiritual experience." I believe that the righteous spirits who return home to God, assist in ways of preaching his gospel to those who have passed on from this life without ever having had an opportunity to hear and understand the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I believe that they are doing a lot of great work there in this respect. Consequently, I do not believe that spirits are aimlessly "floating around" and subject to the musings and entertainment needs of those who "claim" an ability to "call up" spirits at their discretion for entertaining and/or communicative purposes that serve no real Christ-centered purpose. I believe that if our Heavenly Father wants any of his spirit children to "visit" someone on the earth for comforting or reassuring reasons, they will come to deliver a message from him which will be for the blessing and benefit of a specific individual and will be relative to Christ-centered living and Christ-centered thinking. All
other forms of communication would be pointless and just don't seem to fit the "orderliness" of God our Heavenly Father.
This is my opinion.
[BEV: I agree 100% with Donny on this. I have an example to share...
when my 2nd son was run over and we were rushing him to the hospital, I could 'feel' my mother there with us. She did not say anything, or do anything, I could just feel her personality with me, comforting me. There was a purpose for her to be there. Our son lived and recovered fully and is now serving a mission in Finland. I am sure my mom is watching over him there also. Bev]
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
