| Question |
I have been raised a
Catholic and I am raising my children in the Catholic faith. I am
married to a wonderful man who supports my beliefs but doesn't
necessarily believe them. You see Donny, my husband has lost faith in the Lord from a horrible incident that has happened to him when he was a child. He
was raised Methodist and was hurt very deeply by a Methodist
minister. I am sure that I do not have to go into any detail about
this. I am writing to you for some help, answers
to help my husband become a believer again, I attend mass weekly, but feel something
missing myself. I do not feel like a good role model for him. I have
been reading some of your responses to peoples emails and seem to think that the LDS religion has a lot of beliefs that make sense to me, but I am afraid
to learn more about them because of my Catholic beliefs. As you can see I do need some guidance. I know that you are busy but if you have some time I
would love to hear some of your thoughts. I love my husband, he is a good man, but he is lost and confused. I would love our family to worship together.

First all I appreciate your faith in me to want my advice. Regarding your husband being hurt deeply by his minister when he was a child, that
minister did not represent the teachings or doctrine of the Methodist church, anymore than the current scandal within the Catholic church and some of it's
priests represents the teachings and doctrines of the Catholic church.
Those things have been perpetrated by weak and evil individuals who have succumbed to Satan's influence and have broken their vows of Christ-centered
living. The personal faults of these men, including your husband's former minister, must not dictate his relationship with
God, but rather allow your husband to be an even greater light to all around him by overcoming the deep pain (a thing
which will be very difficult to do, but which the Lord will help him
with over time). To do that, he must return to studying the scriptures and beginning again to pray every morning and every night. The Lord loves him and
knows who he is and he is eager and anxious to bless him.
Now, regarding your feeling that the LDS religion in a lot of its
beliefs makes sense to you, but that you are afraid because of your Catholic beliefs. Please don't be afraid. You have absolutely nothing to lose by
pursuing an investigation of it. Time and space in this email do not allow me to go deeply into the doctrine of the Church, some
of which you have already studied and felt good about. What I would
like to propose it that I ask a couple of representatives of our Church to contact you to explain what it is that we believe and why it is truly different
and how it can be an incredible blessing for your family. Once you have had an opportunity to hear and understand their message,
you'll know for yourself whether this is worth pursuing. If what they bring you is not the teaching of God, through your own prayers and study, you will
know by the power of the Holy Ghost whether what they are telling you is true. It should prove to be a rich experiences. If you would like me to have them
call on you, please send me your address and
phone number and I will do that. Please feel free to keep in touch with me to tell me about how you feel with what you are learning.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
