Beliefs > Question & Answer > The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Question How can I find out if there is a Mormon Church in my area, and what the meeting schedule is?

Response You can easily find them in the phone book under "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." There is an 800 number that you can call to get the times and places of meetings. That number is 800-453-3860 ext. 2558.

There are three meetings on Sunday. 1. Sacrament Meeting. This is where the whole family congregates for about 1 hour. 2. Sunday School. Separate classes for different age groups. 3. Priesthood and Relief Society meetings. The men and women go to separate Priesthood and Relief Society meetings respectively. There is no pressure to go to all three meetings at first. I would suggest though, that during Sunday School, if they happen to have a Gospel Essential class, that would be the one to go to. They talk about the basic principles of the Gospel and most of the time it doesn't get too deep for the "first timers." Ha!

There is one thing you'll notice, there is no paid clergy. The members of the congregation get involved in the teaching process. Even the children get up during Sacrament Meeting and teach, depending on the assignments from the Bishopric.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
