You asked if there was something that we could recommend that you could read to basically understand what the LDS Church is based on and some differences.
Probably the very best thing in print today is titled, "Our Search for Happiness" by M. Russell Ballard, one of the members of
the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
You asked why I referred to the D&C (Doctrine and Covenants) and Nephi and you did not know if those books were in the Bible or part of the Book of Mormon.
I apologize for the confusion in my
answers.
The books of First, Second, and Third Nephi are all books found in the Book of Mormon. I think you'd find the book fascinating reading as it not
only explains the history of a people who inhabited the
Americas between 600 B.C. and 400 A.D., but it tells of their prophets, their trials, their wars, their problems and how Christ came to them after he was
crucified and resurrected, to teach them what he had taught
his followers in Jerusalem. I am confident that you will enjoy the
reading.
The Doctrine and Covenants is another book that we also count as scripture because it contains the words of Jesus Christ, our Savior, to the Prophet Joseph
Smith during his 14 year ministry before he was killed.
I hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
