The scriptures do not clarify that for us; however, there is reference made to animals in the scriptures which may be
helpful. The first is found in Proverbs 12:10, and 1 Corinthians 9:9-10, which doesn't give us a lot of scripture but
reminds us that the Lord is very mindful of all of his creations.
I am confident, that the Lord is mindful of our pets and expects us to act toward them in a Christ-like way and to not
abuse them or mistreat them. Unfortunately, we lost a little dog last year named "Spike" and it was very hard on my little
children to lose him. It gave them great comfort to hear this principle that I've explained to you.
I'm sure that the Lord would want us to have that same joy in the eternal worlds that we enjoy now with our pets since they
provide us with so much pleasure. I really do believe that Spike will be with us again as well as our Black Lab, Cocoa,
that we love so much now.
(Footnote from Bev: I find a lot of comfort in this Latter-day scripture in addition to what Donny has written: Moses, Ch 3:5-7 which tells us that animals do have spirits and were created spiritually before physically, as we were.)
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
