You wrote: "... it was necessary for us to obtain
physical bodies of flesh and bone, to come to earth
and be tested on our faithfulness and willingness to
keep the commandments. Those who are faithful will
return to God's presence and be reunited with their
friends and families in an eternal union with those
they love. This I definitely believe!".
Although I am a middle-aged mother of 2, I have made
my share of mistakes in life, and have not always been
true to the Commandments. I had a child out of
wedlock when I was just seventeen. A number of years
ago, I was unfaithful to my husband. My question is
... what happens to those of us who have not kept the
Commandments; who have not always been faithful? Have
we blown our chance to return to God's presence? I
deeply regret the mistakes I've made and I have asked
God for forgiveness, but is it too late for that? Can
I atone for these transgressions at this point?

I am so happy to tell you that you have not "blown it" and even
though you have stumbled in the past, the Lord loves you and he is
eager and anxious to bless you.
He has known you perfectly well for ions of
time. He knew you as one of his spirit daughters long before you came
to this earth.
He has watched over you through the years as you have grown to
womanhood and brought those two lovely children in the world. Naturally he has
wept over your mistakes, just as he has wept over the mistakes of all
his
children, but he is not mad at you. He is ever patient and ever kind
and will continue to encourage you through many means to do what is
right.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered the terrible agony in the Garden of
Gethsemane and on the Cross-of Calvary, literally atoning for all the
sins of mankind, paying the price himself that you and I could never pay.
He has done it and all he asks from us, in order to have our sins
completely taken from us, is true repentance, a broken heart over those
mistakes, real contrition for having stumbled, and a determination never to
go that way
again. If we will do that, he will forgive and forget.
I wish we had more time in this email to expand on all of the
above, but I'm wondering if you would find it helpful for me to send a
couple of representatives from our church to visit with you, and to
explain what we believe and why, to explain in detail the atonement of our
Savior and what
a glorious thing it is to be partakers of that blessing. Once they have
had a chance to explained to you those things we believe, you will be
able to determine whether this is worth pursuing. If you'd like this to
happen, please send me your address and phone number so they can
contact you. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
