You asked how I came to believe that we were once in heaven with our Heavenly Father before coming to this earth. The answer is that I was taught this by my parents who were taught by their parents, and so on. The scriptures, both ancient and modern, also tell us this is so. As we read in Acts chapter 17, verses 24 through 29, before we came to the earth we dwelled with Him, our times and seasons were appointed beforehand, and we are His spiritual offspring.
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
In Jeremiah chapter 1, verse 5, we read that before we were born, God knew us because we lived with Him.
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
We literally are the spiritual sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. The Prophet Abraham verifies this when he talks about our existence with God before we came to this earth. In the Pearl of Great Price, one of the latter-day scriptures the Lord has given us, we read that every form of life had an existence in the spirit world before being born on this earth.
I hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
