What you assume is correct. If an LDS couple is planning to be married in the temple, but they are unable to
resist temptation, they will in fact be unworthy to go to the temple at that time.
There is usually a waiting period of
about one-year, which is determined by priesthood leaders. If they are expecting a child within that period of time, they
will go to the temple with that little child. The couple will be sealed in a temple marriage, where they will take upon
themselves certain eternal commitments to each other and to God. The little child is then sealed to them as an eternal
family unit for time and all eternity. All of their future children are automatically sealed to them when they are born,
only if the couple will continue to live a righteous life.
I hope that this is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
