Beliefs > Question & Answer > Marriage

Question My question is about what to do if you want to get married in an LDS temple but aren't worthy. Lets say that a young LDS couple haven't been able to resist temptation before getting married and the woman is pregnant. What will they have to do in order to be worthy? If they are worthy a year later, will they then take their baby to the temple and be sealed all three at the same time or will there be a special sealing cermony for the man and wife?

Response What you assume is correct. If an LDS couple is planning to be married in the temple, but they are unable to resist temptation, they will in fact be unworthy to go to the temple at that time.

There is usually a waiting period of about one-year, which is determined by priesthood leaders. If they are expecting a child within that period of time, they will go to the temple with that little child. The couple will be sealed in a temple marriage, where they will take upon themselves certain eternal commitments to each other and to God. The little child is then sealed to them as an eternal family unit for time and all eternity. All of their future children are automatically sealed to them when they are born, only if the couple will continue to live a righteous life.

I hope that this is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
