The Book of Mormon covers a 1000 year history of a people who left Jerusalem and made their way to the American Continent.
It begins at 600 BC until the year 400 AD. It also tells of prophets who were sent by God to lead and guide these people,
just as the prophets led and guided His children throughout all of the ages past. They testified that Christ would come to
the earth. The book is even called "A second witness for Christ." It speaks of Christ, it prophesies of Christ, it
teaches of Christ throughout its pages.
One of those prophets was a man by the name of Mormon. He was one of 15 prophets that lived during this time who wrote on
plates of gold so that their writings would not deteriorate. Approximately around 400 AD, Mormon, through inspiration from
God, pulled from these writings the most important doctrines and teachings. Before he died, he gave this compilation of
sacred records to his son, Moroni, who finished them and hid them until the time came that they would be brought forth and
translated into what we now call the "Book of Mormon." All of this was done by the gift and power of God for our benefit
in these latter days.
