This is a very difficult question to answer because of the emotional turmoil that
everyone is in. I must say that I was shocked and saddened beyond belief at the carnage
and terrible destruction wrought by the evil of these terrorists, who are Godless and
who have no regard for human life or property. As we know, it is their aim to wreek
havoc and destruction upon the western world in order to bring the it
down.
As we all know, these terrorists do not represent true Muslims around the
world, but only a very small percentage of "terrorist wannabees," who through their
ignorance, are blindly guided by the hatemongers who lead them.
However, I do not agree that on September 11th God abandoned the world. God loves
all of His children. Surely he weeps along with us at the inhumanity of some, the
wickedness of others, and the unrighteousness of yet many others. But His plan from
the beginning was to give man his agency, that is his free will, his ability to choose right
from wrong, and as we know, even in the beginning, He gave that choice to Cain who
ultimately slew his brother Abel. From that time forward until now, there have been
great terrible wars and conflicts, where thousands have lost their lives.
God sends His children to this earth for the opportunity to gain physical bodies, to learn
of the doctrine of Jesus Christ, to follow His son, our Savior, to keep His
commandments, and to live our lives in such a way that we can return to live with Him
again. He sends prophets, apostles, and teachers to guide and pursuade all of us to
righteousness, but he never denies us the agency to choose good or evil. It is our choice.
The sad thing for countless numbers of His children, they have chosen incorrectly and
as a result, they will lose the right to dwell with Him in His Celestial kingdom through
the eternities. Our earthly existence is merely a temporary situation and a time of
testing. After we leave this life, there is yet another life, a better life, which awaits us if
we have made correct choices while we are here upon the earth.
God does continue to exist. He is that same God who allowed Hitler and his evil works
to destroy millions of people. He is that same God who allowed countless people to
lose their lives over the centuries because of the evil of others, and He is that same
God who leads and guides and protects and provides us with prophets and apostles to
reassure and bring peace. I have no doubt of that. It is more than a mere belief, it is
my knowledge.
I have a suggestion for you. In order for you to gain understanding and faith, I
would like to send two representatives of our church to meet with you. To explain why
we believe what we do and why it is truly different. After you have had an opportunity
to hear and understand their message, you will know whether or not it is worth
pursuing. If you would like me to send them please email me your address and phone
number and I will have them call on you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
