To clarify, when you come to Utah this summer, you will absolutely be allowed and invited to attend church with your
friend. You can attend all of our worship services there, all of our activities and attend any class or meeting that you
wish to attend. You will be welcomed and, no doubt, comfortable.
However, the temple is a place where members of the Church make sacred promises with our Father in Heaven to live righteous
and good lives. It's different from our church services in that only those who hold current "temple recommends" from their
ecclesiastical leader stating
that they are worthy and are living within the standards of the Lord's gospel can go to the temple to make these promises
and receive these blessings. Our Father in Heaven doesn't want us to make these covenants unless we are totally ready and
totally committed. Since you are not a member of the Church, you cannot attend the temple. That does not mean that you are
a bad or an unworthy individual. The blessings of the temple are offered to everyone who will come into the Lord's
restored kingdom on this earth by being baptized into the Church, demonstrating faith and good works, and living the laws
of the gospel. Everyone who is willing will have this opportunity, but it does require taking necessary steps. Just as
Jesus Christ was baptized to fulfill all of the commandments of his Father, we are required to take part in ordinances and
enter His kingdom through baptism as well. We must live faithfully so we might have the promised blessings of eternal life
and eternal marriage found in the temple. I cited in answer to your other email, how many members of the House of Israel were not able to
enter the temple in days of old. When, and if, you ever become a member of the Church, if your life continues to be worthy
and righteous, you will have no problem at all in obtaining a temple recommend so that you can have the privilege of
attending the temple and participating in those ordinances.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
