BEV: I understand your question as I had wondered this before I became a member
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also. I now know that the things we do in the Temple are not 'secret', but they are extremely sacred to us. We do
not publicly discuss them as this would detract from their sacred meaning in our lives.
In the Temples of the Lord, we perform religious ordinances where we make promises to and with God (covenants) for ourselves first and then as proxies for people who have died and not had those opportunities on
earth. These sacred ordinances include baptism, and sealing them to other family members. The things that go on in the Temple are not ordinary earthly things. We
receive sacred instruction and learning and you just must be prepared to learn those things.
Just as the Savior taught in parables, and those who were ready to, understood them; (they were sacred also) so the instruction and learning and ordinances are for those who believe in
them and are prepared to receive them. We want the whole earth to receive these great blessings and to make promises with God our Father.
I love to go to the Temple and serve the Lord there. The peace you feel as you serve is immense and earth's cares and worries are put aside for a period of time.
I hope this helps you understand a bit more about what we believe. I sure appreciate your taking the time to write. :-)

DONNY: The only thing I could add to this is the comparison of my home being sacred to me. My door is not open to the world for
just anyone to come walking through at their leisure. There is"sacredness" about our home in how we conduct our lives and
absolutely nothing "secret" about what we do there. Our home belongs to my wife and me. We have a certain lifestyle that
we live by. I am not saying that people aren't welcome into our home but we would ask them to respect that there be no
profanity, smoking, or any other principle that we may deem inappropriate. It is our right and prerogative.
So it is with our Lords house. He asks us to abide by his law and his principles. It is his prerogative. He doesn't ask us
to do "secret" acts. No, his temple is "sacred".
I hope this clarifies your misunderstanding.
