| Question |
I have heard that the Latter-day Saints deny the fact that Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity (God in three persons), ie that Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord wasn't in fact God
in the flesh, but only the son of God, literally.
Is this true?

It is. We believe that God our Eternal Father and His only begotten son in the flesh, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct beings. To clarify the
question let’s refer to the scriptures. Genesis 1:26 says, "And let us make man in our own image and after our own likeness." In that verse there is a discussion. God is
not talking to Himself; someone else is involved. Matthew 3:16-17 recounts the baptism of Jesus, with Christ himself coming up out of the water after being baptized, the
spirit of the Holy Ghost descending in the form of a dove and lighting upon Him, and the voice of our Heavenly Father calling from the heavens, "This is my beloved son in
whom I am well pleased." If God and Christ were the same being how should we think about that statement? In The Book of Acts 7:55-56, it bears witness to the
separateness of God and Christ, when the great disciple Stephen saw the heavens open and bore testimony that he saw, "The Son of Man standing on the right hand of
God." If they were the same being would he not have said he saw the heavens open and God our Father standing there alone. For further reference see Hebrews 1:1-3, we
read there that after Christ had completed His work on the earth He took His place on the right hand of the Father. It does not say that He became the Father.
There are many other scriptural witnesses that Jesus Christ our Lord is in fact a separate being from His Father, if it were not so how would we explain John 1:14 where
John testifies that he beheld the glory of "the only begotten of the Father." Mortal or immortal beings do not "begat" themselves. God our Heavenly Father was the literal
father of Jesus Christ and His mother was Mary. Further witness of that is given in John 3:16, which says, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son."
There are many other scriptures, but the reciting of them wouldn’t make the point any clearer. I hope this helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
