Question Hi Donny, There is something I would like to ask. I know that Mormons are not allowed to drink tea, coffee, coca cola due to caffeine. How come they are allowed to eat chocolate and drink chocolate drinks as recent reseach has shown these also contain caffine?

Response The quantity of caffeine is the issue here because of the dependency of caffeine creates in the user. The reason for the commandment to avoid these things is dependency related, just as we are also counseled by our prophet to avoid tobacco, alcohol, and harmful drugs. The amount of caffeine in a candy bar or a cup of hot chocolate is not sufficient to cause an addiction or dependency like caffeine in tea are. Having said this though, I know of some people who are choco-holics. I believe this can be just as detrimental to ones health. I hope this is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
