Beliefs > Question & Answer > Questions about Jesus Christ

Question My question is if the Book of Mormon and the bible do complement each other and do not contradict each other, why do Mormons believe that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. The word is very concrete that Jesus Christ is God the Father's only begotten son. Where do they get the idea that a fallen angel could even be related to God's Only Son?

Response You have rightly said that the Lord Jesus Christ is the "only begotten son" of our Heavenly Father. To be precise, he is the only begotten Son of God, our Eternal Father, in the flesh--that is, fathered on this earth. All of our Heavenly Father's other children are not "begotten in the flesh," but were spiritually begotten of him. That is, we were created spiritually by him. Not only we, but Christ himself and Lucifer.

You will notice in reading Revelations 12:7-9 that there was that point in time where there was a war in Heaven and Satan was cast out of Heaven to the earth and his angels (all those who followed Satan) were cast out with him. And just like you and I, Satan was related to God's only Son spiritually. That is, he and all of us were spiritually created by the Father.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
