Donny my question to you is actually in response to another question I saw posted about baptism for the dead and spirits being taught about the gospel after they had died
from this mortal existence. If we are all spirit children of God and we lived with him in heaven before being sent down here to earth to gain a body and be tried and tested,
then how is it we did not already know the teachings of the gospel then as spirits who had already once dwelt with God?
I don't understand is the part where when people die their spirits go into the spirit
world to be taught when to me they already obviously knew of the plan and the gospel before coming to earth.
Response
You have correctly stated that while we lived with our Heavenly Father in our pre-earthly life we did in fact know all of the gospel plan.
And when we were sent to this earth a veil of forgetfulness was placed on our minds so that we would be properly tested and tried. Because God is merciful, kind,
and fair to all of His children He gives us every possible chance to hear and accept the gospel message. But because of the veil we cannot remember what we knew
when we lived with Him. When we die, if we have not yet had the opportunity to hear and understand the gospel message, we will hear it in the spirit world. As we
read in 1 Peter 3:18-19 and 1 Peter 4:6 that is exactly what happens.
I’m wondering if it would be helpful for you if I asked a couple of representatives from the church to call you to explain exactly what we believe and why concerning
this plan of salvation. If you would like that please send me another letter including your address and telephone number and I will have them call on you.
