The answer to this first question, is that there is no official church policy that expresses such a tradition. But, I must say that I like
the feel of what you do, because I think it surely must serve as a sustaining influence in the lives of those who remember their deceased
loved ones with such loving prayers.
Your second question was, if Jesus was Jewish, and the Mormons believe in Him, why don’t they and all other Christian churches
celebrate the same religious holidays as the Jews, along with Easter and Christmas?
It is because as Christians, we believe that when Christ came and completed His ministry, He literally fulfilled the Law of Moses. This
ended certain Jewish laws and traditions, such as the sacrifice of animals and the day of the week on which the Sabbath was observed.
You will remember, in the New Testament, that as Christ preached His doctrine, many of the leadership of the Jewish people were very
upset and annoyed. He taught a doctrine about the nature of God and the origin of man which did not sit well with most of the Jewish
people, and as you know, He gave His very life as a testimony that what He had said was true. Consequently, we celebrate holidays that
are relevant to Christianity. I hope this is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
