| Question |
Mormonism teaches that God is an exalted, glorified man, but the Bible is
filled with references to God as an infinite and unchanging Being. Surely
this is incompatible with the view that God is an exalted man who has
progressed through Earth life to gain the position that he now has?
The Bible does not speak of men becoming "Gods", but it does speak of men
becoming "sons (or children) of God" through faith in Jesus.

We know from the scriptures that God created man in His own image and after His likeness (Gen. 1:26). We know that Moses spoke
with God face to face as a man speaks to his friend (Ex. 33:11). We know that Jesus Christ is in the express image and likeness of God
(that is, He looked liked Him), and when He had finished His work on the earth, He ascended to heaven and sat on the right hand of
God (Heb. 1:1-3). Consequently, we can learn from the scriptures that God is an immortal, glorified being in whose image we all are.
We know from reading Matthew 5:48 that we are invited by Christ to "be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is
perfect." We know further that we lived with God our Heavenly Father in the pre-existent earth life as His spirit children. He was the
Father and Creator of our spirits (see Romans 8:16-17). Notice in the 17th verse that Paul tells us that we may be "glorified" with Christ.
That being true, think of how throughout the centuries God has spoken to His prophets and apostles and through His Son. He has done
so to properly guide us and teach us so that we will learn more and more about Him, and so that we can live our lives in such a way as
to become more and more perfect. Does it not seem logical that while we will never replace God, nor should we plan to, that we will
continue to gain more and more knowledge and become more like Him in respect to our knowledge and power because of that
knowledge?
I hope this is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
