In your letter, you asked a question about Matt. 22:30, which says that there will not be marriage in the resurrection. How do I reconcile that with my
belief?
Jesus said in the 30th verse: "For in the resurrection, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven."
The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regarding eternal marriage is that if men and women do not have the opportunity to be
married for eternity in one of our temples while they are here upon the earth, when they leave this life and return to paradise to "await their resurrection,"
they will have the opportunity to have that sealing ordinance of temple marriage done for them by proxy in the temple.
One of the great blessings of the
temple is that that work takes place and continues on day after day for the benefit of those who have passed on. Finally, when all of Heavenly Father’s
children have had the opportunity to either accept or reject the gospel and all of its principles and ordinances, then they will be resurrected and brought to
stand before our Savior to be judged according to the works which they have done. After the resurrection, therefore, there will be no eternal marriages
performed for those who have lived on the earth, which is one of the reasons why we spend so much time doing that vicarious work for deceased
individuals in our temples.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
