I am so happy that you have had an opportunity to tour the Boston temple before it was dedicated. I presume
that the tour answered some of the questions you asked in your e-mail. You asked specifically why the temple was so enormous and fancy compared to
some other churches. The size of the temple depends on the Church population area in which it exists. In the New England states area, the membership of
the Church is very large, and the attendance at that temple will be considerable. Smaller temples, such as those in isolated areas of Mexico and Central
America, are smaller because the membership of the Church is considerably smaller than in the New England states, and the number of attendees will be
correspondingly smaller.
As you saw on the outside of the temple, this is the "House of the Lord." We build such temples, large or small, to worship and reverence Him. The
temple in its majesty is a monument to His honor. Its fineness, or fanciness, as you have called it, suggests that we would give our very best to the Lord.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
