Beliefs > Question & Answer > Comparing The LDS Church and Other Religions

Question Donny,
My question to you is this...I am a Baptist so yes, we do believe differently than you however, do you think that since I spend a lot of time in the Word of God and in prayer to Him and I have such a sweet peace about my beliefs and my soul is overflowing with joy and contentment....could I be so wrong in my beliefs?? Don't you think that the Lord would show me somehow IF I was so wrong about Him? I attend a local church here in Chattanooga, TN and what a blessing! I know I have met with God when I leave church. Please don't get me wrong, I by no means am telling you that you are wrong because it is not for me to judge- I am merely wondering IF it is possible at all that what we believe may be truer to the Word of God than what I have read in your beliefs. Just a thought. I hope you aren't upset with me. Do you know how we (Baptists) believe and if so what are your feelings about it? From what I have read and think I understand I do believe that you and I will meet someday in Heaven so until then...may God bless you, guide you and keep you close to Him.

Response

I appreciate so much your faith and your faithfulness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I love all religions, which bring people closer to him.

In answers to your questions, I have no doubt that because you do spend a lot of time in "the word of God," and in prayer to Him, and because you have such a sweet peaceful feeling about your beliefs, and that you do feel joy and the contentment we all feel who love and worship our Savior. You definitely are not wrong in your belief that he is your personal Savior. The great value of constant, careful, and prayerful study of the scriptures, coupled with your constant daily prayers will guide your life. I also believe that the Lord will show you if there is more about Him that you must know, because you posses the great virtue of having a sincere heart and strong faith.

There is so much more that I want to tell you about what we believe and, why and how it compares to what you believe. I feel absolutely no criticism at all toward what you believe, because much of what you believe is what I believe. Time and space in this letter will not allow the in-depth discussion that I would like to have. I only say this, that the very same church that Christ organized when he was on the earth has been restored to the earth in these last days. It contains the fullness of the everlasting gospel. The apostles prophesied about such a restoration, and in one place, Revelation chapter 14 verse 6. John speaks about his vision of an angel returning to the earth and bringing back the fullness of the everlasting gospel. If you would like, I would be happy to have a couple of representatives of our church contact you to explain simply what we believe, why, and what this "restoration of the gospel" is all about. Then you can determine for yourself whether further investigation of these things would be worth pursuing. If you would like for me to do that, please send me a note by e-mail with your name, address, and phone number, and I will see to it that you receive the information you’re looking for.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
