Beliefs > Question & Answer > Questions about Jesus Christ
| Question |
My main question is---- Do you (LDS) believe that one must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again? Do you believe that one must believe this and ask God to save them to become a Christian? Or do you believe that God is everyone's Heavenly Father?

Like you, we believe that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took upon Himself the sins of every man and woman who ever lived or will live on this earth. We believe that He died on the cross, was buried, and rose on the third day. As a result, all men and women, no matter what their beliefs or righteousness, will be resurrected (receive a new body) and live forever in an immortal state. However, we do not believe that one must ask God to save them in order to be called a Christian. All of us, no matter what religion, are Christians if we believe that Jesus Christ is the "Son of God", the "Savior of the world", and we strive to keep His commandments, take upon ourselves the burdens of others, live Christ-centered lives, and be righteous and faithful to the end of our lives. Christians are those who adhere to the tenants that Christ and His apostles taught when He was upon the earth.
We believe that when we pray, we should always thank God our Heavenly Father, for all things. We must recognize His generous hand in all things and thank Him for sending us His Son who has shown us the way to return to live in the eternities with Him. If men and women accept Him and His gospel, their lives will be happy and enriched. If they choose to reject that message, their lives will be less happy and less fulfilling to the degree of their rejection of those Christ-centered principles.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
