| Question |
Was Jesus married? What was the Savior's relationship with Martha and Mary? Was one of the apostles was actually the brother of Jesus by birth?"
|
| Response |
Your first question was, "Was Jesus married?" The Church has no official printed doctrine regarding that question. Church scholars have suggested the possibility but there is nothing definitive from the brethren. Your second question had to do with the Savior's relationship with Martha and Mary. The scriptures only make clear that Mary and Martha were very loyal, devout disciples of Jesus Christ. Past that would be mere speculation on our part. The third question asked if one of the apostles was actually the brother of Jesus by birth. The answer to that one is yes, and it is James the writer of the epistle of James. (See Galatians 1:19, Mark 6:2-3)
19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother. Galatians 1:19
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mark 6:2-3
If Mary was James' mother, then her husband Joseph would be James' father.
