What happened to the plates that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from?

You asked what happened to the plates that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from. When the book was translated and printed, the angel Moroni, who brought Joseph to them in the first place, took them back. Their location is not known. I do not know why they’re not known, but I suspect that there are evil men on this earth who would discredit and undermine the work of Joseph Smith and the restoration of the gospel to the earth if they could get their hands on those plates, and destroy them. We do know the plates existed, because of the testimony of eight men who saw them and handled them.
