Beliefs > Question & Answer > Modern Day Revelation

Question Donny, I ask my question with the utmost respect for your belief. I have often wondered and have not found out the reason why The Book of Mormon was translated into " King James English" if it was translated in the 1800's ? This always stuck me as odd because it seems as though it should be written in Modern English. Modern English would have been more familiar to Joseph Smith.

Response You asked why the Book of Mormon was translated into King James English rather than modern-day English. In all honesty I must say that I do not know. However, I don’t find it inconsistent that the translation of this great book is written in what I would call "scriptural English." I think somehow that this is good. It raises the text of the book above the common and ordinary. It makes it special. As we read it, we realize that it is not like every other ordinary reading. I definitely believe that Joseph Smith was inspired to that end.

Sincerely,

Donny Osmond
