| Question |
I do want to keep this friendly, because I have a great respect for the moral beliefs of the LDS church. We need strong moral support in this country more now than ever before. Therefore, I do disagree, that the book of Mormon is a Testament of Jesus Christ, but I disagree respectfully. I do believe that the book of Mormon was written by a believer in Jesus Christ, a Presbyterian Minister. He intended the book to be fiction but with a Godly tone, not HOLY scripture. Other Christians have also done this. Thus we have books like Pilgrims Progress.

Regarding your e-mails, there are several points to which I would like to respond, and I appreciate your interest in what we believe. You stated in your first e-mail that it was your belief that the Book of Mormon was written by a Presbyterian minister, and was intended as only a book of fiction. I do not know why you believe that, but I would like to suggest that you could learn first-hand if there is any validity to that position.
If you don't have a copy of the Book of Mormon, you can order a no-obligation FREE BOOK of MORMON. You may call a toll-free number to order one: 1-888-537-7111; or you can go to your local library and check one out. In any event, please read the Book of Mormon from start to finish. If you will do so with a sincere heart, with a real intent, having faith in Jesus Christ, he will manifest the truth of that book to you by the power of the Holy Ghost. It is by the power of the Holy Ghost that we come to know the truth of all things. It will not do to scan book, or to take the opinion of others. This is a very personal matter. If you want to know the truth, read the book. When you have done that in the manner described above, I would be grateful if you would let me know what you think. The key ingredient in your learning first-hand the answers to your questions concerning The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the questions that you have raised in your e-mails, will come in the reading of the Book of Mormon. If that book is true, Joseph Smith is a prophet, and all that he said about his experiences is therefore true. If the Book of Mormon is not true, if it is just a book of fiction, as you have supposed, then Joseph Smith is not a prophet. My saying that it is true, and you saying that it isn't true, does not make it so either way. The book will stand on its own, and be its own proof. I beg you and even challenge you to do the study with a sincere heart, and then you will come to know for yourself.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
