| Question |
I do enjoy the new show you have with your sister, used to watch the first show when I was a kid. I just wanted to share something with you about what the Bible says, which is the word of God. The Bible is God's Word, and the word of God will stand forever (Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25). Why does the Mormon church teach that the Bible is incomplete and has serious translation errors?
Second question is, why does the book History of the Church, vol.6, pages 308 and 474, teach about there being many gods? For the Bible teaches, there was, is and always will be only one God (Isaiah 43:10,11; 44:6-8; 45:5,6,18-22) (Deuteronomy 6:4; 32:39; James 2:19).

Marie and I are pleased that you are enjoying the show, and also that we can share with you some things that we believe.
Like you, we believe that the Bible is the word of God, but we believe that it is not His only word, and that He has spoken to his prophets throughout the ages, from Adam to the present day, to guide and direct his people on the earth.
Because of revealed truth, through the great Prophet Mormon, (who lived on the American continent approximately four hundred years after the death of Christ), we learn that when the Bible was translated from the original papyrus into book form, those who did the translation from Hebrew to Latin, and then to Greek, deleted many of the plain and precious things that were taught by the prophets and apostles. We further believe that Satan, who hates all of us as Heavenly Father's children, put it into the hearts of those translators to delete certain things. By so doing, some confusion has been created concerning the true nature of God, the divine Sonship of Jesus Christ, the correct mode and necessity of baptism, as well as many other doctrines and ordinances of Christ's true church. Biblical scholars have said that because of this predicament, the Bible contains some contradiction. The Book of Mormon helps clarify many of these contradictions.
If you do not have a copy of the Book of Mormon, you can obtain a FREE, no obligation copy by clicking on the Book of Mormon. You can also call Toll-Free in the USA or Canada: 1-888-537-7111, or go to your local library and check it out. To fully appreciate our understanding of the above teachings, you would want to read the Title Page of the Book of Mormon, the introductory pages, (specifically the Testimony of Joseph Smith, regarding the translation of the book) and then pages 25 and 26 of the book, which is 1 Nephi 13 verses 20-42. I do not know if you will be able to accept those words as truth, but at least you will know why we believe what we do on those subjects.
You asked why our church doctrine teaches about there being many gods, when the Bible says there is and always will be only one God. We believe that they are God our Eternal Father, his son Jesus Christ, and the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost. We believe all three are separate and distinct beings, and are Gods. When Isaiah says there will be only one God, he says correctly. But what he references is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and our relationship to him. He is our Savior, he has taken upon himself our sins and transgressions, based upon our willingness to keep his commandments and live righteous lives. We literally become his spiritual children and he our God, when we live our lives as he has commanded us.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
