| Question |
I was curious about the Missions that people go on. Why is it that a man goes on longer missions than a women? And is it true that they have to have their wisdom teeth pulled before they can go on a mission, and did you ever go on a mission? Thank you for your help.

You asked why it is that a man goes on a longer mission than a woman in our church does. I honestly don’t know, but I do know that women have the right to ask for an extension past the eighteen months if they wish. It’s been a practice of the church for many years regarding the length of these missions. I’ll have to find out more information about it.
You wanted to know if it’s true that they have to have their wisdom teeth pulled before they can go. The answer to that is they don’t have to have their wisdom teeth pulled. Many of them do simply because they are nineteen years old and most people have their wisdom teeth pulled sometime in their young adult lives to save trouble with them later. It’s done so that they don’t have the problem of finding competent dentists if they happen to be in a country where good dentistry is not available. I never had mine pulled at 19, but then again, my wife always tells me that I have a big mouth.
In answer to your last question, it is true that I did not serve a full-time mission that devoted 100% of my time to proselyting missionary work. Instead, my family and I chose to spread the good news of the gospel with our musical talents and example. I hope we have. People have told us that over the years it has been our good fortune to have had a positive influence in their lives. By trying as best we can to live exemplary Christ-centered lives, I hope that we can continue to be a good influence in the lives of others.
I hope this is helpful for you.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
