| Question |
I've been reading your section of questions and answers and understand and believe a great deal of what you are saying to be true and I will study it more...but I do have a question. I am white and my husband is black. I heard a long time ago that this was frowned upon by LDS. Is this true? Does this mean even if I were to find in my studies and prayer that LDS teaching are correct, I still could not (along with my husband) be a LDS?

You asked whether the LDS Church in the past had frowned on interracial marriages.
There is no church doctrine or policy on interracial marriages, and I am aware of many members of our church where the marriage is "mixed." It is absolutely not true that if you and your husband were to study the teachings of this church and decided to join it that you would be unable to. The church welcomes people of all races throughout the world. You might be interested to know that hundreds of thousands of members of the church throughout all countries of the world and of different ethnic descents have joined and enjoy the full fellowship and blessings of the church in every way. Many of these people have mixed marriages and many do not.
Because of what you said in your concluding sentence about searching for something more than your church has given, I’m wondering if it would be helpful for me to have a couple of our representatives call on you and your husband. They will be able to take the time to explain what we believe and answer the questions you might have about our doctrine. If you would like for me to do that, please send me a note by e-mail with your name, address, and phone number, and I will see to it that you receive the information you’re looking for.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
