Artificial insemination
I'm a 32 year old single girl, and have decided that in the next few years if I am not in a committed relationship or married I would like to be artificial inseminated to allow me the opportunity to be a mother. I am an inactive member of the church.
I have done some research on it, and have found that the church does not condone this, yet why would the church deny the opportunity of someone not married the opportunity to be a mother? What are your views on this?

You indicated in your e-mail that you are considering artificial insemination if you are not married in the next few years, in order to have the opportunity to be a mother. You have learned that the church does not condone this and you wonder what my views are concerning it.
This is a hard question to give a great answer to and I’m not sure that I can give you the answer you seek. However, it is true that the church does not condone this, but the church does not deny you the opportunity to make that choice. We all have the right to do whatever we think is best, which does not mean we have made the right choice. I have found in my lifetime that by "following the brethren of the church" I never went wrong. By following their counsel I was never sorry. I know that you are an inactive member of the church and therefore assume that you don’t have the same perspective on the brethren as I do. But, for its value, you now know what I think.
I would like to make a suggestion. Return to active, full, faithful activity in the church. Discard anything in your life that would keep you from doing that. Go to the Lord in humble prayer and beg him to help you, not only to become active again, but to help you find the answers to any questions you might have had which might have caused the inactivity in the first place. Then, do everything you can do to be faithful to the principles of the gospel. If you will do that, the Lord will bless you and all things will work together for your good. The Lord knows who you are. He knows you individually. He has known you for eons of time. He is eager and anxious to bless you. The blessings are there for you to claim, if you will be faithful to all of the principles and precepts of the gospel. The marriage and children you seek can be yours through righteous faithfulness. I promise you that this is true and hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,
Donny Osmond
