A number of questions have come up since Donny.com has featured OneGreatFamily. We feature the following Frequently Asked Questions in an effort to answer the most common questions before ahead of time. If you have further questions that are not answered here in this FAQ, you can visit the

- I went to the help section of the web site and it seemed I did it all ok. But the browser never comes up and gives me any info. What should I do next?
- I can't get past the "agreement". Now it is telling me to install Netscape 4 or higher. I already have Netscape 4.7. Any suggestions?
- I have been trying to subscribe to the OneGreatFamily.com through this website. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error message saying there is no data available. I have contacted the support@donny.com email address and they cannot help me. Can you give me any suggestions? I would really like to take Donny up on this offer.
- In the last month, I signed up for a 3 months membership on OneGreatFamily.com before you announced your promotion with them. Do I have to be a NEW member to receive your bonus CD? Can I upgrade my membership to a year or do I have to purchase another whole year membership?
- I am already a subscriber (Since February). To be part of your offer should I sign-up using a different name?
- I have never done any genealogy before, how do I start? What are the first steps?
- What if I am adopted? Do I search for my birth information and birth family, or my adopted family?

Question:
I went to the help section of the web site and it seemed I did it all ok. But the browser never comes up and gives me any info. What should I do next?
Answer:
If you are having troubles loading the Genealogy Browser, please contact OneGreatFamily tech support. You can submit your problem using the contact form found on OGF's FAQ page(www.onegreatfamily.com/faq.z). Please specify how far you are getting in the login process and if you are receiving any error messages.
Question:
I can't get past the "agreement". Now it is telling me to install Netscape 4 or higher. I already have Netscape 4.7. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Although you may have experienced problems in the beginning using Netscape with the Genealogy Browser, you should now be able to login without any difficulties. Our system does require that you also have Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer on your computer. If you experience any troubles with Netscape, you may want to try using Internet Explorer. Some customers have found that it works better with the Genealogy Browser.
Question:
I have been trying to subscribe to the OneGreatFamily.com through this website. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error message saying there is no data available. I have contacted the support@donny.com email address and they cannot help me. Can you give me any suggestions? I would really like to take Donny up on this offer.

If you encounter any error messages while trying to login, please contact OneGreatFamily tech support using our contact form, found on our FAQ page. (
www.onegreatfamily.com/faq.z) Please specify what error you are receiving and when it appears. Do not write to Donny.com support about OneGreatFamily issues as they will not be able to provide any support on these topics.

I have never done any genealogy before, how do I start? What are the first steps?
Answer:
If you are new to genealogy, we have many useful tools to help you get started. On our home page you can find our "Genealogy University" which contains helpful information for beginners. We also have a tour under our "Getting Started" link, to help you become acquainted with the Genealogy Browser. You will also find a short tutorial on our home page under the link that says "I am new to Genealogy: show me how I can start building my own family tree and see how it connects with others!"
Question:
What if I am adopted? Do I search for my birth information and birth family, or my adopted family?
Answer:
If you or someone in your genealogy is adopted, you will want to follow their biological line. If you already have information for the adoptive family, you may start another anchor or family group for that family, using the parents. We are also working on some features that will be useful to people with adoptive situations in the future.

How do I find my ancestors that are from another country? My parents are deceased and I have no information about my grandparents. I have been told that a lot of records were destroyed during the world war years.
Answer:
Even if you only have a small amount of information, enter all that you know about your immediate and extended family. The more information you enter, the better your chances for receiving Hints. Once you have entered all that you know, and are waiting for hints, you can utilize our Web Hints feature. This feature allows you to use other sites to search for a single individual from your pedigree. You can read more about these features and many others in our Help section.
